Climate change also has significant impacts on agri-food production, with consequences that do not even exclude Italy, where significant changes have been found. Olive trees moving close to the Alps, early harvests and an increase in wine strength are just a few examples.
Climate crisis and Made in Italy products

In addition to this already worrying context, the damage caused to agriculture by the evident tendency to tropicalization. In the last few years, they have grown exponentially violent weather events, such as water bombs and hailstorms, as well as seasonal delays that undermine the health of crops and agri-food production. An emblematic case is that of honey, another excellence of Made in Italy.
The collapse of honey production
From North to South, along the whole of Italy, 2019 will be remembered as the year of the collapse of honey production due to the anomalous climate that characterized the first months of the year. The percentages of the decline are impressive: they range from 40% to over 70% in some areas.
In particular, higher-margin productions such as acacia decreased by 41% compared to expectations, leading to a cut in revenues of 73 million euros for beekeepers across the country.
The collapse of local honey has at the same time led to an increase in imports. According to an analysis carried out by Coldiretti on the basis of the data Ismea, currently on the shelves of shops and supermarkets more than one in two jars actually contain foreign honey. About half of this honey comes from Hungary. 10% instead comes from China where, unlike the national territory, they are also allowed GM crops.
